| Description: |
The Guide to Law Online is an annotated compendium of hypertext
links and descriptions of certain server sites accessible through
the Internet's graphically interfaced portion known as the World
Wide Web (WWW). These sites are ones that allow public access
without charge to materials of significant use in legal research.
Although the Guide is highly selective, inclusion of a site by
no means constitutes endorsement by either the Law Library of
Congress or the Global Legal Information Network. It is our hope
that within the near future there will be WWW sites providing
free access to many fully reliable, complete and officially certified
texts of primary legal materials. To date, no such sites have
been identified, although several of the very best come quite
close to this ideal, often lacking only official certification
to fulfill fully these requirements. When such sites do come online,
it is our intent to grant them specific recognition in the Guide
as well as to provide links directly from the GLIN database files.
Meanwhile, this Guide will continue to attempt to direct users
to the most useful and reliable law sites actually online worldwide,
recognizing that most of the sites listed still have many shortcomings.
