| Description: |
covers all accredited institutions in the United States and
Canada offering postbaccalaureate degrees. The database contains
three kinds of records: 1) institution records, 2) unit records,
and 3) directory records. There are over 1,500 institution records,
and each of the graduate programs at these institutions is represented
by one of 28,000 unit records. Every unit record is coded to reflect
its position within the administrative hierarchy of its parent
institution and assigned to one or more of 300 academic disciplines.
Institution records give the name, location, size, and type of
the school, as well as data on faculty, student services, and
research facilities. Every unit record lists the actual program
name, administrative head, and degree concentrations. Unit records
also have fields for the number of faculty and appointments, research
budgets, and focus of faculty research. Directory records contain
generic desciptions of over 300 graduate programs, including data
on the number of degrees granted and enrollment figures with ethnic
breakdowns.
Gradline (Silverplatter) is a different
implementation of the same data.
