CONTENTS OF SIMON
SIMON is the catalog of all the titles that the library owns—books,
periodicals, musical and spoken work recordings, DVD and videocassette
recordings of films and documentaries, software, electronic books and
journals, and all other forms of media in the library.
ACCESS
The Web version of SIMON is accessible to the public both on and off
campus through the Library’s Web page of
http://www.lemoyne.edu/library/ or directly via http://library.lemoyne.edu.
No identification and password are needed.
WORD SEARCH
The word index is compiled of words from the author, title, subject,
and notes fields of the SIMON database. Use the following search
strategies to retrieve more relevant search results in a word search.
Use word searches to identify subject headings to search by. Subject
headings within the full record are links that, when clicked on, perform
searches for all items under that subject.
ADJACENCY
Multiple words are searched together as one phrase.

ADVANCED WORD SEARCH
To use this feature, select ADVANCED SEARCH from the word search screen.
Searchers can limit search results by language, material type (videos,
e-books, sound recordings), publisher, or date
EXACT SUBJECT SEARCH
This search option utilizes the standard library subject headings
from the Library of Congress. Personal names, famous events, geographical
place names, intellectual movements, and religions constitute most headings.
Some familiarity with Library of Congress Subject Headings is helpful,
but searchers may begin with a good guess and then be guided by cross-references.
Subject headings can be “traced,” or followed, by clicking on the subject
heading links within an individual, full record in SIMON.
AUTHOR SEARCH
The author index includes more than the traditional book author. Film
directors, stars of films, performers in sound recordings, editor, and
translators all have author entries in the author field or index. Type
the last name first.
TITLE SEARCH
Type as much of the title as needed. Ignore punctuation.
AUTHOR/TITLE SEARCH
With the last name of the author and part of the title, SIMON can
retrieve a record in its database.
This retrieves William Faulkner’s The Sound and the Fury.
RESERVE READINGS SEARCH
Search by last name of the professor or by course number, e.g. HST
101 (use a space between the department and the number). All print items
are kept at Circulation Services.
VIEW YOUR LIBRARY ACCOUNT
Select “Your Patron Record” from SIMON’s search menu. Using your last
name and the barcode number on your college identification card, you
can look up information about your library account. Find out which
items you checked out, when they are due, and what you have in fines,
if anything.
CALL NUMBER SEARCHES
If on occasion you know have the call number, but lost track of the
bibliographic information, such as the title or the publisher, you can
search SIMON by call number to retrieve the rest of the information.
