Madden Institute for Business Education
Michael D. Madden, a 1971 graduate and principal member of the general partners at Questor Funds, a financial services firm, has committed $1 million to establish and endow the Michael D. Madden '71 Institute for Business Education at Le Moyne. The Institute includes an endowed Professorship in business administration, fund endowed graduate scholarships for Le Moyne's MBA Program and equip the modern, state-of-the-art MBA Center with a multimedia classroom and conference center. The Madden Institute will initiate and maintain learning and service relationships between Central New York and national business communities. It will also sponsor business conferences with focus on bridging academe and industry along with a lecture series featuring national and regional guest speakers. The Institute will also convene a prominent and highly visible Business Education Advisory Board to assist in the development of business programs at the College. Madden's experience as a student at Le Moyne helped shape his commitment to the College. "Le Moyne is something very special to me. I made most of my best friends there and those four years were the most important period in my personal and intellectual growth." "The College serves as the foundation for my personal and professional success. Le Moyne provided a rigorous academic environment and supported it with a caring faculty and sense of Christian values. It did a great job of preparing me to reach the next level. Today, at 50 years old, Le Moyne is poised to advance to a preeminent level as an academic institution. I hope my gift serves as a catalyst to motivate others to assist the College in achieving the national status it deserves." Madden sees his gift as "enhancing an already strong business program by providing a forum to attract global business leaders to act as advisors, guest lecturers and supporters." One of the College's most generous benefactors, Madden served as chairman of Le Moyne's Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2003, and has served on the board since 1988. He has been an adjunct faculty member and guest lecturer in both undergraduate and graduate courses. After graduating Le Moyne with a bachelor's degree in economics, he earned an MBA in finance, with distinction, from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania (1973). Prior to Questor Funds, Madden served as Chairman & CEO of Hanover Capital, LLC, a financial services firm based in New York City, and prior to that he was Vice Chairman of Paine Webber Incorporated, where he led the Global Investment Banking Group. Also, Madden served as Executive Managing Director of Kidder Peabody & Co. where he was responsible for Global Operations including investment banking, international emerging markets, capital markets syndication and strategic planning. Madden is a director for Freeport McMoran Properties; member of the American Stock Exchange Advisory Board; Member of the Board of Trustees, Canisius High School; Member of the Board of Catholic Television of Long Island; Member of the American Petroleum Institute; and Advisory Director of CFO Magazine. He is also a frequent host of the CNNfn show Street Sweep, appearing on a regular basis on the financial network's daily market round-up program. He is the 1997 recipient of the Frank Fernandez Business Award at Le Moyne, and received the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1996. Madden, resides in Manhasset, N.Y. with his wife and their four children. |
