AJUC's Conference on Multicultural Affairs (CMA)
The conference on Multicultural Affairs (CMA) of the Association
of Jesuit Colleges and Universities was officially established in October
of 1981. Known then as the Conference on Minority Affairs, its
purpose as outlined in the organization’s constitution is fivefold:
(1) Insuring access of students of color to Jesuit higher education.
(2) Providing an awareness of problems faced by students of color in
Jesuit institutions and developing strategies to overcome those problems.
(3) Developing mechanisms by which ideas and information relative to
the concerns of students of color can be disseminated among Jesuit institutions.
(4) Promoting the institutionalization of student of color participation
in planning, policy formulation, and policy implementation within Jesuit
colleges and universities.
(5) Enhancing the quality of the educational experience for all students
attending Jesuit institutions.
From its very inception Le Moyne College has been integrally involved
with the CMA. Le Moyne served as on of the founding institutions
of the organization. Carl A. Thomas, Director of HEOP/AHANA served
as president of the organization from 1985-86 and Carl Forbes, Asst.
Director of Admissions currently holds the post of information officer.
In 1985 Le Moyne was the recipient of the Distinguished Program Award
for its Black Visiting Scholar Program.
It is anticipated that Le Moyne College commitment to diversity
will solidify its continual involvement in the CMA.
