Physician Assistant Program
Application Process

Deadlines

You must apply through CASPA (Central Application Service for Physician Assistants). Go to www.caspaonline.org and follow the instructions on the website. A completed application contains your academic history (including official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended), health care experience, curriculum vitae, three letters of recommendation (preferably at least one from someone in a healthcare position), personal statement, and official TOEFL results (for students whose native language is not English).

All information requested to complete the CASPA application needs to be sent to CASPA. Le Moyne College does not receive any information at this time in the application process.

CASPA will take 3-4 weeks to process and verify your application. All questions regarding the status of your application must be done through the customer service representatives at CASPA. Once completed and processed, the application will be sent to Le Moyne College. At this time, you will receive confirmation from Le Moyne that we received your application from CASPA and information as to how to complete the Le Moyne College Supplemental Application. You must complete the Supplemental Application to fully complete your application to Le Moyne College.

In order to complete the Supplemental Application, you will receive a User ID and Password both via email and postage mail. You must utilize the Le Moyne website to complete the Supplemental Application and may submit it directly online.

The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) - including both TSE and TWE - must be taken under any of the following circumstances:

  • The student is a non-native speaker of English
  • The language of a student's formal education is not English
  • English is the student's second language

Competitive candidates have scored 550 or higher on the TOEFL paper exam, 213 or higher on the computer-based TOEFL exam and 79 or higher on the TOEFL iBT

Information concerning TOEFL can be obtained from the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

Note: Although CASPA requires official transcripts, they are used by CASPA only and are not sent to the Le Moyne College PA Program. Therefore, if you are accepted into the Le Moyne College PA Program, you must submit official transcripts from all schools attended to Le Moyne College.

The application deadline for Fall 2009 is October 1, 2008.

Dates indicate when both completed CASPA Application and Le Moyne Supplemental Application must be postmarked/emailed to the Office of Admission at Le Moyne College. We recommend that you complete the CASPA application a month before the stated College deadlines because we send out Supplemental Applications only after we receive the CASPA application materials; the delay between receipt of CASPA materials may impede your meeting the College deadlines.

Selection Process

Admission decisions are based on an individual's academic abilities, health care experience, communication skills, professionalism, recommendations from prior associates, and commitment to the Physician Assistant Studies Program. Approximately 35 students begin the program each fall.

Your application will be considered when both the CASPA Application and the Le Moyne Supplemental Application have been received. Completed applications will be reviewed for the following admission criteria and prerequisites:

  • Cumulative GPA, science GPA, and program prerequisite GPA of 3.0 or better.
  • Prerequisite courses completed prior to your anticipated entrance into the program.
  • At least four courses completed within the last five years.
  • Proof of health care experience. Applicants with experience exceeding 750 hours will be given preference.
  • If required, competitive TOEFL scores.

If prerequisite course work was completed outside the United States, proof must be submitted that a minimum of five courses were successfully completed in an accredited US institution.

After initial review, selected applicants will be called to interview with members of the PA Admission Committee. The interview will consist of an individual and a group interview with Admissions Committee members, an on-site writing sample and meeting with current students.

The 2009 interview dates are as follows:

Tentative: January 8, 9, 10

All applicants will be notified by mail of the PA Admission Committee decision. In most cases, decision letters will be mailed within 10 -14 days of the interview.

Le Moyne College welcomes applications from individuals with various backgrounds regardless of race, color, gender, creed, age, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, veteran status, or national or ethnic origin.

If you have any questions about and of the application requirements, please contact the Office of Graduate Admission at Le Moyne College at (315) 445-5444.
