Mission
Le Moyne College is a diverse learning community
that strives for academic excellence in the Catholic and Jesuit
tradition through its comprehensive programs rooted in the liberal
arts and sciences. Its emphasis is on education of the whole person
and on the search for meaning and value as integral parts of the
intellectual life. Le Moyne College seeks to prepare its members
for leadership and service in their personal and professional
lives to promote a more just society.
The Le Moyne College Physician Assistant Program
is dedicated to the education of students to become competent,
caring, compassionate, and ethical providers of health care services
with the supervision of a licensed physician. The program seeks
to instill in each the individual desire to pursue a lifelong
commitment to promote excellence in the delivery of patient care
through continual self assessment and advancement of ones
medical skills and knowledge.
The program prepares the student to work in a wide
variety of settings under the supervision of licensed physicians,
such as hospitals, private primary care facilities, nursing homes,
and community centers.
Message
from the Chair
The Physician Assistant Profession is a demanding
yet rewarding career. Serving the health care needs of your fellow
human beings is a privilege and responsibility, and it is the
goal of this program to prepare physician assistants who are caring,
compassionate, and competent. A strong humanities component of
the curriculum provides an opportunity for students to learn about
and understand medicine and its relationship to a wide variety
of cultures.
Our problem-based learning approach ensures that
you will be learning material that is relevant to your profession,
that you are taking responsibility for your own learning, and
that you are an active learner. You will form a strong learning
community with your classmates. The faculty are responsible for
providing you with ample learning opportunities and constructive
feedback to enhance those learning opportunities. Our goals are
to make you life-long learners, and to help you develop skills
in self-directed learning, self-assessment, clinical thinking,
resource utilization, and professional communication.
In addition, physician assistants must become patient
advocates in an ever-changing health care environment. They will
serve in leadership positions, educational and research positions,
as well as direct patient care positions. This program provides
opportunities to develop these interests through participation
in the Student Society, service learning, and elective rotations.
The Physician Assistant Profession is a demanding yet rewarding career, and I wish you all the best as you pursue your
goals.
Sincerely,
Linda G. Allison, MD, MPH
Chair, Department of Physician Assistant Studies
