ΦΣΤ - Phi Sigma Tau (New York Eta Chapter)

and other

Opportunities for Undergraduate Scholarship

Purpose

Phi Sigma Tau’s purpose is to serve as a means of awarding distinction to students having high scholarship and personal interest in philosophy, to promote student interest in research and advanced study in this field; to provide opportunities for the publication of student research papers of merit; to encourage a professional spirit and friendship among those who have displayed marked ability in this field; to popularize interest in philosophy among the general collegiate public.

Awarding Distinction

In the Spring semester, students who meet the criteria for admission into Phi Sigma Tau are inducted in a public ceremony. The winner of the annual Essay Contest is also honored, as is the winner of the Leonard P. Markert Medal in Philosophy. There is a reception with the whole philosophy department, families and friends with good food and good spirits (not the drinkable kind). The 2008 Honors Ceremony was held on Thursday, April 17th in the Drescher Community Room of the Panasci Chapel. Make your plans now to join us next year - hopefully as an honoree.

Opportunities for Publication

Phi Sigma Tau and the Department of Philosophy sponsor an annual essay contest on the Le Moyne Campus. The winner receives a cash prize and is honored at the Spring Honors Ceremony. For more information, contact Prof. Tabor Fisher.

For Calls for Papers for undergraduate publications, check back at this site or check out the "Symposium / Philosophy Conferences" bulletin board on the 4th floor of Reilly Hall, across from Dr. Flower's Office (RH 435).
