2008-2009 Senior Internship Information Meeting

There will be a meeting for students to learn more about internships in psychology for Fall 2008 and Spring 2009 on Thursday, April 17th from 5:30-6:15 and again at 7:00-7:45. The directors of the program, Professors Mark and Michele Vinciquerra, will be present to discuss what is available and how the program works. Anyone interested in an internship through psychology is encouraged to attend.

The meeting will be held in SC 230. Hope to see you there.

EPA 2008 in Boston: Le Moyne Well Represented

The Le Moyne College Psychology Department and its students were well represented at the 79th Annual Eastern Psychological Association (EPA) conference held March 14-15, 2008 in Boston, MA. Eleven students led by Profs. Birgit Bryant and Monica Sylvia attended the conference. These included Katie Conroy, Amanda Domrowski, Eric Fenclau Jr., Courtney Fusco, Hillary Greene, Lindsey Monnat, Jennifer Reece-Barnes, Sara Stebner, Jenna Sullivan, Kate Zacharek, and Carrie Zurencko. The trip was sponsored by the Psychology Club and Psi Chi.

At EPA, three of these students presented posters on research that they had completed under the direction of Dr. Bryant.

Katie Conroy (top photo, left) reported on her research (as part of her Integral Honors degree) on the topic “Consumer Psychology and the Weight Loss Phenomenon: A study of Weight Loss Supplement Usage among Faculty, Staff, and Students at Le Moyne College”
  
Jennifer Reece-Barnes (top photo, right) examined "Adolescent Bullying and Its Effects on Adult Female Friendships" as the focus of her research. She conducted this work under the direction of Dr. Bryant (who is shown on the left standing next to Jennifer). Her project was completed as a requirement for Departmental Honors at Le Moyne.

Finally, Sara Stebner (bottom photo, center) described her Integral Honors thesis project: "An Examination of the Relationship Between Mental Illness and Criminal Activity in a Sample of Onondaga County Offenders: A Diathesis-Stress Approach." Dr. Christina Michaelson of the Psychology Department served as co-advisor on Sara's project along with Dr. Bryant.
