Student Services

Le Moyne offers a variety of services to meet student needs. The following information provides a basic overview of the facilities, programs, services and activities designed to assist students.

The Student Life staff is responsible for supervising and enhancing the quality of student life and fostering student development in appropriate extracurricular and academic ways. The Student Life Office also coordinates activities and services in the following areas: housing and food service, student discipline, personal counseling, health services and athletics.

The Vice President for Student Life, the Dean for Campus Activities and Director of Residence Life and Judicial Affairs, located on the second level of the Dining Center, serve as advisers and regularly are available to assist students. The College also provides career counseling services which are under the direction of the dean of enrollment management.

For more information on student services, refer to the Student Handbook.

ORIENTATION

Participation in a formal orientation program is considered important for providing new students a smooth transition into campus life. A two-day summer program is sponsored for both incoming freshman students and their parents. Emphasis is on discussion of College philosophy, policies and expectations. Students register for their fall classes and have the opportunity to meet others in their class. Special information sessions for parents are held to orient them to the Le Moyne experience that their son or daughter is about to begin. Faculty and staff members make various presentations and are available to answer questions.

A fall orientation program supplements the two-day summer program. It is more social in nature and is coordinated by an orientation committee of upperclass students who help new students move in and introduce them to campus organizations, programs and people. A P.A.T.H. (Peers Assisting in the Transition to the Heights) program assigns upperclass students to maintain contact with a group of 8-10 new students throughout their initial fall semester to enhance their connection to Le Moyne.

RESIDENCE LIFE

Le Moyne has a variety of residence facilities for students who wish to live on campus. Nelligan Hall is a men's residence and houses primarily freshmen and sophomores. St. Mary's Hall is a women's residence that houses primarily freshmen and sophomores. Dablon Hall is a coed residence hall for freshmen and sophomores. Foery Hall and Harrison Hall provide suite-style accommodations for upper-class students. Six individual townhouse-type buildings of four units each were constructed in 1990. They each house six senior-level students in three bedrooms with a living room and a kitchen. For the most part, seniors reside in the townhouses. In addition, two floors in Loyola Hall are used for student housing.

Chaumonet House and Le Moyne View are college-owned apartment style housing options located close to campus.

DINING SERVICES

The Dining Hall, managed by Sodexho Marriott Educational Services, is open seven days a week. The College offers 7-meal, 10-meal, 14-meal and 19-meal per week plans. There are a variety of choices and unlimited seconds at each meal. The Dining Center and its Special Events Room are frequently scheduled for student functions.

The Dolphin Den, located on the first floor of the Campus Center, serves as the College's snack bar. The Dolphin Den is often the site of dances, coffeehouses, and other special events.

BUILDING ACCESSIBILITY

All buildings meet minimal standards of accessibility for individuals with physical disabilities. The College has a brochure that provides information on facilities' accessibility.

STUDENT HEALTH SERVICE

The Student Health Service is available to all full-time undergraduate students. Graduate students and part-time matriculated undergrads who voluntarily pay a health fee may also use this service. All students must have a health report and recent physical examination on file in the Health Office.

The Student Health Service is located in Seton Hall and is staffed by registered nurses 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday when school is in session. Medical coverage includes the medical director and a nurse practitioner, one of whom is on campus each weekday morning. Referrals to specialists off-campus can be arranged.

The Student Health Service offers a broad spectrum of medical care including emergency first-aid, treatment for injuries and illnesses, medical and nursing consultations and health-related counseling, allergy injections, laboratory tests and other diagnostic procedures ordered by the College's physician or the student's private

physician. Off-campus consultations such as x-rays, dental, physical therapy and other referrals may be arranged through this service.

Required Physical Examination/ Immunization Record

A complete physical examination, medical history and immunization record is required of all full-time students, including transfers. Transfer students may submit a copy of their physical exam/immunization record from their previous college. Registration procedures will be delayed if this form has not been received by the designated date. In addition, no student may participate in intercollegiate athletics until this form is on file.

Required Immunization Record for Part-time Students

In compliance with New York state law, all students, full-time or part-time, born after 1956, must present adequate proof of required immunizations. Registration procedures will be delayed or denied until these records are on file.

CAMPUS MINISTRY

Campus Ministry is the department which seeks to serve the entire College community from the perspective of faith. An attitude of genuine respect is promoted toward all religious faiths and Christian denominations. The professional staff offers opportunities to experience worship, community, volunteer service, spiritual development and consciousness-raising.

Campus Ministry provides leadership and opportunities for community worship at

Le Moyne and encourages students to become involved as lectors, ministers of the Eucharist, members of one of the music groups or members of committees which plan upcoming liturgies.

Retreats at Villa Le Moyne are offered each semester to help members of the College community come to a deeper appreciation of their faith and to give a foundation in Christian spirituality from which service should flow. Campus Ministry is also involved in sacramental preparation ministry for Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist.

Everyone is invited to participate in Projects in the Community which enables volunteers to use their time and talents to work with after-school recreation programs, to tutor local neighborhood children or to assist at one of the area shelters or community dining rooms. Senior citizens' dinners are held three times each semester. The Campus Ministry Office also organizes trips to Appalachia and inner-cities as Alternative Breaks during the various break-times of the school year.

Campus ministers are available to assist students in resolving matters of religious and spiritual concerns in a confidential setting. The campus ministers welcome all to use the new chapel facility for relaxing, reading and informal gatherings during both day and evening hours.

CENTER FOR PERSONAL GROWTH AND COUNSELING

Quite frequently throughout their college careers, students are faced with the need

to make a variety of decisions concerning both their academic and personal lives. The counselors are available to meet with students who wish to learn about various topics for their personal growth. For example: finding your niche in college; achieving peak performance; coping with stress; learning about relationships; understanding your role in your family; finding your identity; understanding male-female relationships. In addition, the counselors are available to meet with students experiencing difficulties involving their roommates or family members. Students who wish to discuss their concerns or would like psychological assistance can call or visit the Center to make arrangements to speak with one of the counselors. At a meeting or by phone, the counselors can also make referrals to off-campus therapists.

More information about the resources and counseling services is available by calling or visiting the Center. Office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. If immediate help is necessary, students may contact their residence hall director or the campus Safety Office at 445-4444 during the hours that the Center is closed.

Additional Resources and Services

Other resources students may use for personal growth are available. Students may watch videotapes or learn from computer programs privately in a soundproof room. The Resource Room offers brochures and books in a relaxing atmosphere. Rooms are available on a walk-in basis, but may be reserved by calling the Center. Students may also arrange a personal growth meeting or skill-building meeting with a counselor by calling or visiting the Center.

Additionally, the Center offers workshops and discussion groups on a variety of topics throughout the year, including making the transition to college work for you, stress management, making romantic relationships work, conflict resolution, achieving peak performance, finding the adult inside you, time management, and assertiveness. Skill-building meetings on many topics are available by appointment.

Support groups can be offered, depending upon student interest. In the past, support groups have been provided for students affected by the loss of someone close to them, difficult majors or programs, divorce in the family, and difficult or dysfunctional relationships. To participate in a support group on these topics or suggest a new topic, students should call the Center.
