Summer Stipend for Student Learning Assessment
A. Purpose
The purpose of the Summer Stipend program for Student Learning Assessment is to provide funding, up to approximately the equivalent remuneration for teaching on undergraduate summer course, for faculty members completing student learning assessment work.
B. Eligibility
Any member of the Faculty Senate returning to full-time faculty position is eligible to apply for a Summer Stipend for Student Learning Assessment. Faculty who receive a Summer Stipend may not then engage in other remunerative employment without the consent of the Committee.
C. Application Process
A full application consists of a completed application form together with all supporting material requested on the form. Applications should be submitted via email attachments to Eileen Ayers as word documents. The Committee reviews applications once a year according to the following schedule

D. Evaluation Criteria
Applications will be judged based on the likelihood for producing a significant impact on student learning assessment at the college. Preference is given:
- To tenure-track applicants;
- To projects already underway that can be brought to completion with the support of a Summer Stipend
E. Report
Applicants who are granted a Summer Stipend must submit a brief report to the Assistant to the Provost for Student Learning Assessment, the Provost, and the appropriate Dean by October 15th (of the year in which the stipend was received). The committee will not consider proposals from applicants who have outstanding project reports for SLA or R&D. As in all such matters, the support of the College should be acknowledged where appropriate.

A. Working title for the project.
B. Full description of project (including goals of the project and its current status).
C. Applicant's qualifications for pursuing the project.
D. Amount requested and a budget that supports the requested amount.
E. For projects on pedagogy, department chair (and, if relevant, program director) must complete a brief form indicating whether project is consistent with department/program planning needs. The form should be submitted directly to Eileen Ayers.
Notes:
- Stipends are paid through the College payroll office and are reported as taxable income to the IRS.
- A faculty member accepting a summer stipend may not accept any other form of (monetarily) compensated work during the period covered by the stipend. This prohibition includes not only summer teaching, but also all other forms of remunerative activities. Minor exceptions include service as summer chair, summer advising, or activities equivalent in minimal compensation and minimal demands.
