A letter from Barb Karper, Assistant Vice President
for Campus Activities and Multicultural Programs
Welcome, as you become involved with campus life you
will expand your intellectual horizons, experience new relationships,
develop your own philosophy of life and of course, get to
know the staff and faculty here at Le Moyne. The office
of Student Development is here to help you make the transition
to college life and make the most of your co-curricular
experience.
I wear many hats in my position. One of the most exciting
and rewarding for me is coordinating new student orientation.
Here I get a chance to meet members of the entering freshman
class and share with them all the wonderful things Le Moyne
has to offer.
Another hat, and one that I am proud to wear, is coordinating
Le Moyne's efforts in the area of multicultural affairs
and diversity education. I work with numerous student groups
and campus wide committees that plan workshops, retreats
and events designed to educate members of the college community
about the issues and opportunities present in a multicultural
society.
Finally, I am responsible for overseeing all the 40 plus
recognized student clubs and organizations on campus including
working with the Student Senate. My role, and the role of
the staff in the Student Development office, is to provide
support to club members in areas such as programming, budgets,
and leadership training.

The Office
of Multicultural Affairs provides a broad range of programs
and activities designed to expand and enhance opportunities
for success and achievement for students of color. These
programs include diversity training; research on students
of color and climate issues, multicultural programming,
and various enrichment programs.
The Student Senate is the
formally recognized "voice of the students." Under
the leadership of an executive board (president, vice president,
secretary and comptroller), elected at large by the student
body, the Student Senate assures formal student input into
the College's policy-making process. Committees responsible
to the Student Senate include the Le Moyne Student Programming
Board (LSPB), Organizational Finance and Review Committee
(OFRC), Student Affairs Committee, Academic Affairs Committee,
Commuter Affairs Committee, and the Multicultural Affairs
Committee.
