Colleague to Colleague: Conversations about Teaching

October 15 in Grewen Hall 408

12:30-1:30  Adventures with the First-Year Seminar (COR 100)

The new Core curriculum is rolling out for the Class of 2017 and with it the first-year seminar (COR 100). What seminar topics are offered? How’s it going? How are students responding? How is the common reading, Bartleby the Scrivener, being integrated? Join COR 100 instructors for a discussion of these questions and more. If you’re thinking about developing a first-year seminar in the future, then this session is definitely for you!

1:30-2:30  Canvas Course Showcase

  • It’s goodbye Blackboard and hello Canvas in spring 2014. Are you interested in seeing some examples of Canvas courses? Several faculty colleagues are using Canvas this semester and they’ll offer brief tours of their courses. A great opportunity to get some ideas!

Information Sessions

As many of you know, the rollout of the Canvas learning-management system is progressing as planned, with campus-wide implementation scheduled for the start of the spring 2014 term. Canvas will replace Blackboard as the College’s learning management system and consequently, all course content currently in BlackBoard must be moved (“migrated”) to the new Canvas system prior to the start of the spring term.

You likely have many questions about Canvas - How will I move my class information? Will I have to learn something new? Support for the migration process begins with three kick-off/information meetings in the Grewen Auditorium:

  • Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 10:30 a.m.
  • Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 3:30 p.m.
  • Thursday, Sept. 19 at 1:00 p.m.

Each session will last an hour, providing specific information regarding the migration, planned training for faculty and plenty of time to answer all of your questions. Please plan to attend one of these sessions and encourage all your colleagues to do the same.
