Online Canvas Basics course
Online Turnitin and Canvas mini-course
Just the Basics This module will cover the basic information required to use Canvas. Included will be information on navigation, course administration and basic means of communication with your students through Canvas. This module is intended for all faculty planning to use Canvas.
Content organization This module will explore the Canvas modular concept and tools used to communicate assignments. You’ll learn to link to course files and external content such as webpages and Library resources. This module is intended for faculty interested in organizing their course content without committing to higher level course design.
Content creation This module will explore the use of the content editor for creating announcements and content pages. We’ll look at examples of how content pages can easily be used to share information. We’ll consider ways to post information for students that commonly needs to be repeated or where context needs to be added to content. This module is intended for faculty interested in a slicker course and the option to post information on complex course topics.
Assignments and Grading: Submissions and Discussions This module will explore the tools for allowing student submissions to assignments and online discussions, along with how SpeedGrader, rubrics and annotation tools can be used to enhance feedback to students. This module is intended for faculty considering online submission of assignments and online discussions in their courses.
Assignments and Grading: Surveys and Quizzes This module will explore the online survey and quiz tools in Canvas, along with automatic grading, and regrading. This module is intended for faculty considering online surveys or quizzes for graded or non-graded knowledge comprehension evaluation.
Rubrics for Grading: This module will explore the use of rubrics for grading and providing feedback to students. We’ll discuss the elements of a rubric, then create a rubric and outcome and apply them to an assignment. This module is intended for faculty looking for an efficient and consistent method of providing feedback to students.
Using Outcomes & Rubrics for Program-Level SLA
This module will explore the use of Canvas tools for assessment of student learning at the program level. The focus is course-embedded assessment; that is, how to embed program-level assessment into assignments that faculty are using in their courses. We'll show how to create program-level outcomes and how to align these with course-level assignments. We'll look at examples from Fall 2013 where faculty used rubrics for grading and where program-level assessment data were collected across several separate courses.
