Dr. Ma’s research interests include literacy across the curriculum, ESL, and teacher education. His current research focuses on adolescent literacy, culturally responsive teaching strategies, and discussion as an instructional tool.

Dr. Shenandoah's research interests concern issues of historical oppression of Native Americans as a living legacy experienced in everyday struggles within families and communities. Focusing on the experiences of the urban Native American population in Central New York, her research concerns education reform needs for heightening critical awareness and creating space for strengthening linguistic, cultural, and spiritual identity for Native American youth and families.

Dr. Singh’s research areas include early childhood education, early literacy, second language and literacy acquisition, and teacher education. Her current research explores ways in which teachers can be supported to provide developmentally appropriate literacy instruction to all children, especially in classrooms that are culturally and linguistically diverse.

Dr. Schmidt's research revolves around the ABC's of Cultural Understanding and Communication, a model she created to help in-service and pre-service educators implement culturally responsive teaching. Her books, book chapters, and journal articles demonstrate teacher adaptations of the model for the literacy development of students from language minority backgrounds in urban and rural schools.
