Patrick has published six books of poetry: A Drowning Man is Never Tall Enough (University of Georgia Press, 1990); (reading a burning book) (Basfal Books, 1994); Feeding The Fear Of The Earth (Many Mountains Moving Press, 2006); Under Ground (Many Mountains Moving Press, 2011); Trade World Center (Ravenna Press, 2012), and Child Sings in the Womb (Bitter Oleander Press, 2014).  In addition, he has two books of fiction: Rescuers of Skydivers Search Among the Clouds (winner of Fiction Collective Two Ronald Sukenick/American Book Review Innovative Fiction Award, 2013), and The Meaning of If (a collection of short stories from Four Way Books, 2014). 

Among his awards are two New York State Foundation for the Arts Fellowships, a Constance Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts Grant, the CNY Book Award for Fiction, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. He has written, in collaboration or individually, numerous plays ("Voice/Box," "Circle of Willis") and film scripts (The Life and Life of Gilbert Booth and The Zeno Question)

Scripts co-written with Director Theodore Schaeffer have received a number of awards including a Feature Finalist from the BlueCat Competition and support from the Davey Foundation Grant.
