Computer science spans a wide range, from its theoretical and algorithmic foundations to cutting-edge developments in robotics, graphics, intelligent systems and other exciting areas. As a computer science (CS) major at Le Moyne, you will be part of a small close knit community with lots of interaction with faculty members. Our introductory course has weekly laboratory sessions taught by faculty, where you will get hands-on experience with topics learned in the classroom. Our courses emphasize the fundamental concepts of computer science, treating today's popular languages, tools, and systems as current examples of these concepts. The goal is to prepare you not only for today's job market but also for the dynamic nature of our field.
The CS faculty strive to deliver out-of-classroom learning opportunities that you typically only find at larger universities. For example, we are organizing a series of events on cyber security during 2014-15. The initiative will be steered by a leading expert in cyber security and participants will include experts from both industry and academia from many high profile CNY organizations. These events will give our undergraduates the opportunity to learn about cyber security from leading experts and to gain exposure to these experts.
|The CS department offers the following degree options:
The two pre-engineering concentrations result in a Bachelor's degree from Le Moyne and leads to acceptance into Syracuse University's Master's program in either computer science or computer engineering.
- Bachelor of Arts in Computer Science
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (pending final approval)
- Pre-engineering concentration in computer science
- Pre-engineering concentration in computer engineering
In the U.S. there is some debate about whether our K-12 educational system should include computer science as a core subject. Watch this six-minute video where some famous people answer the question should everyone learn how to program?.
Our CS-programs are part of a range of IT-based programs offered at Le Moyne as shown in the picture below.
