Le Moyne College Reaccredited by Middle States Commission on Higher Education

Among the comments “… the campus energy, hopes and resolve are palpable…”

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College has been reaccredited by its major accrediting agency, the Middle States Commission on Higher Education (MSCHE).

In summarizing academic initiatives such as the new Core curriculum and the integration of sustainability into the management curriculum, the outside reviewers noted, “Le Moyne approaches the future with greater rigor, determination and confidence.” In addition, they noted that the College had “transcended” the commission’s recommendations regarding the 2005-2006 self-study.

In the report, reviewers stated that “changes in presidential leadership provide opportunity for renewed energy; reorganization and restructuring as well as reallocation of resources attest to a more strategic thinking and management… Le Moyne has identified its challenges, which are critical, clear and cogent as it navigates through the increasingly uncertain socio-economic future. But the campus energy, hopes and resolve are palpable in their description of opportunities enveloped within these challenges.”

“I am gratified by the very strong affirmation the College has received,” said President Fred P. Pestello. “I thank the committee members who coordinated the report to the MSCHE, the entire campus community and Le Moyne’s stakeholders for their part in continuing to propel this College forward.”

The evaluators also:
• lauded OneLeMoyne academic initiatives and applauded College efforts to advance its national reputation;
• observed: “The receipt of a $50 million bequest certainly contributed to Le Moyne’s ability to maintain a position of financial strength, but in addition, it is clear that there was also expert financial management.”
• commended numerous aspects of operations, from the complementary efforts between student learning assessment and the Office of Institutional Research staffs and data-driven investments in physical plant and infrastructure, to the College’s “creative attention to increasingly challenging and competing issues” in the higher education market.
