Mayor Proclaims Thursday, June 6 “Dolphin Lacrosse Championship Day” in City of Syracuse

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Mayor Stephanie A. Miner honored the players and coaches of the Le Moyne College men’s lacrosse team at a City Hall ceremony that took place on June 6, 2013. The team won a NCAA Division II National Champion in an 11-10 win over Mercyhurst University on May 26, in Philadelphia.

“We are always excited to honor the excellence of our student athletes,” said Mayor Stephanie A. Miner. “The work the Le Moyne Dolphins lacrosse team puts in clearly paid off. This entire community is proud of their efforts and their success. I am happy to welcome the players, the coach, and Dr. Pestello to City Hall.”

The Dolphins finished off the season 18-2, tying for the most wins of any Division II team in history. This is the Le Moyne team’s fourth national championship title.

“The team’s championship run exemplifies the character and perseverance that is a hallmark of Le Moyne students,” said Le Moyne President Fred P. Pestello. “The players join me in thanking the fans, family, friends and alumni who supported them on throughout the season. I am grateful to everyone in the Athletic Department for their investment in our student athletes, who are equally successful in the class room, having achieved 20 consecutive semesters with a cumulative GPA of over 3.0.  On behalf of my colleagues at Le Moyne I want to thank Mayor Miner and the City of Syracuse for this honor.”

At the ceremony, attended by Dr. Pestello, Coach Dan Sheehan, and players from the Le Moyne team, the Mayor presented a proclamation honoring the team and its success.

Here’s the text of the proclamation:
