Le Moyne College Professor Appointed Vice Chair of Tsunami Warning Study Committee

<p>SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Martha Grabowski, professor and director of the information system program at Le Moyne College, has been appointed vice chair of the National Academy of Sciences’ study committee to review the U.S. Tsunami Warning and Forecast System and Overview of the Nation’s Tsunami Preparedness. This Congressionally-mandated study will review progress towards tsunami preparedness in response to the 2006 Tsunami Warning and Education Act (P.L. 109-424, December 2006), the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, and the recent Myanmar cyclone. The study committee, comprised of disaster, critical infrastructure, risk, large-scale systems, ocean, and meteorological researchers from around the world, will meet in Washington, D.C., the western Pacific, and in east Asia over the next two years before they present their findings, conclusions and recommendations to the National Academy of Sciences and Congress in June 2010. <br /> <br /> More information about this study can be found at http://dels.nas.edu/osb/tsunami.shtml.<br /> <br /> More information about the National Academy of Sciences and the National Research Council’s Ocean Studies Board can be found at http://dels.nas.edu/osb/index.shtml.</p>
