Le Moyne College Professor to Appear on Colbert Report

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (For Immediate Release) … Le Moyne College Visiting Professor Br. Guy Consolmagno, S.J., will be interviewed by Stephen Colbert, host of “The Colbert Report,” about the search for extraterrestrial life and whether the possibility it exists contradicts with one’s belief in God. The topic has been in the news lately in the wake of a recent Pontifical Academy of Sciences Conference on astrobiology. Brother Consolmagno is an American research astronomer and planetary scientist at the Vatican Observatory.

The show with Brother Guy will be taped on Tuesday, Dec. 1, in New York City, and it will premiere at 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The show will repeat on Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 2 a.m., 9:30 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. In the Syracuse area, the show appears on Time Warner Cable Channel 50.

Brother Guy is currently teaching the course “Dynamic Creation: Faith and Reason” at Le Moyne with another Jesuit scholar, Belgian scripture scholar Jan Lambrecht, S.J., S.S.D.
Crosslisted in both the chemistry and physics department and the religious studies department, the course is a rare opportunity for students to explore the intersections between faith and reason in the search for truths about the universe.

“The Colbert Report” is one of Comedy Central’s most popular shows. Touted by The New York Times as “one of the best television shows of the year” and praised as “The Best Show of the Year” by Entertainment Weekly, “The Colbert Report” has garnered ratings and critical success as one of the top shows on television. In 2008, it was given a prestigious Peabody Award for Excellence in Broadcasting.
