The guide below can assist with determining the nature of the trouble and assist in resolving the trouble before calling the Technology Help Desk.

TROUBLESHOOTING

If you are experiencing a problem with your telephone service, please check the following troubleshooting hints before calling the Technology Help Desk:

  • Check that the telephone cable from the wall outlet to your telephone is properly connected, and that the cable is plugged into the proper wall plate and jack.
  • Check to insure that the telephone is not plugged into an orange colored jack. The orange colored jacks are for computer network connections and may cause damage to the telephone or the college's network, if not corrected.
  • If you cannot make long distance calls make sure the telephone is not restricted for long distance calling.
  • If you have a multi-line set and the telephone is not responding or displaying "Hang Up", the headset feature button was pressed. You will need to unplug the telephone and then plug it back in. Immediately press the first black colored feature button locate just under the display window. This should reset the phone back to normal condition.
  • If you have a multi line set and the telephone is not responding and the display looks normal, try lifting and reseting the template. Sometimes when any of the key buttons are depressed to hard, they will stick under the template causing the telephone to lock up.
  • Many time the single line sets cause static when buttons are pressed or cords are moved. These calls should be referred to the Technology Help Desk for possible telephone replacement. Le Moyne College contracts with a local vendor to correct and/or replace office telephones which become unusable due to normal wear or breakage. The vendor normally will respond within forty eight hours to replace broken telephones.
  • If you are still having problems, not related to your telephone, call the Technology Help Desk at x4579.
