Troubleshooting Cable TV Problems

If you are experiencing a problem with your television service, please check the following troubleshooting hints before calling the Technology Help Desk:

Check that the coaxial jumper cable from the wall outlet to your set is properly connected, and that the center conductor is extending into the center of the coaxial connector.

If you cannot receive any channels above Channel 13, be sure your set is a cable ready TV and has been "switched" to "cable" channel selection (not "off-air").

If you are experiencing difficulties only on certain channels, but your neighbors are not, check the fine tuning adjustment for those channels.

Shadow images on certain channels(particularly Syracuse local channels) and fuzzy pictures has been attributed to bad or unshielded coax cables between the wall plate and your TV.

To rule out a television problem, try your television in your neighbor's room or bring your neighbor's TV into your room to check cable service.

If you are still having problems, not related to your TV, call the Technology Help Desk at x4579.
