Receiving Calls

All 4xxx extensions and 60xx extensions may be reached from off-campus by dialing the prefix 445 followed by the extension number. All extensions between 6500 and 8799 (residence hall student rooms) may be reached from off-campus by dialing the prefix 251 followed by the extension number. When receiving calls, a single ring indicates the call is from another on-campus extension while a double ring indicates it is an off-campus call.

Call Waiting

Call waiting allows you to receive a second call while on an existing call. A short interruption of the call and a brief tone will be heard when another caller is attempting to reach you. To answer, momentarily depress the switch hook or flash button (Note: you can also hang up the current call and the second call will ring). You can also switch back and forth between calls by momentarily depressing the switch hook or flash button. This will switch you to whichever call is on hold.

Call waiting can be removed as a feature on your phone line by contacting the Telecommunications Office at extension 4101.

Collect Calls and Outside Telephone Services

As a reminder, students are advised that the acceptance of collect, third party, and or convenience calls are not permitted over student telephone extensions. Students are not allowed to subscribe to any outside service (Voicemail, Long Distance, Internet, etc.) which bill back installation and/or monthly service fees to the student's assigned extension. Such calls are subject to a $10.00 collection fee/per call/per monthly billing. These fees are directed toward the efforts made by the College in tracking of student extensions and the rescinding of the unauthorized service with service providers. Although the college makes every effort to restrict these calls, some telephone carriers and service providers will allow the calls to pass through or occur, regardless of restrictions. Students are responsible for all calls made from and to their extensions and should make every effort to safeguard their telephone. Any suspected incidents of misuse or fraud should be reported to the Telecommunications Office.
