    Self-Esteem, Belonging, and Positive Information

Join us for, "Self-Esteem, Belonging, and Positive Information," a talk delivered by Bridget Lynch, Ph.D., an assistant professor of psychology at Le Moyne College.

Dr. Lynch will discuss her growing body of work investigating how people balance multiple self-related motivations. Most of her work examines the motivation to maintain self-esteem and maintain important relationships. For example, we know blatant self-promotion carries social costs, so what can people do instead? The research presented here explores one way to minimize these costs: promotion by others (spreading good information about our friends). Social network analysis was used to explore the extent to which individuals perceive and utilize promotor potential in their friend groups.

This event is part of the Spring 2022 Social Science Seminar Series. These events are free and open to the public. Sponsored by the social science departments: anthropology, criminology and sociology; economics; political science; and psychology.
