The Silence of the Faith Community

Bryan Massingale, S.J., explores why it is important for the leaders of faith communities, particularly those in the Catholic Church, to speak out against environmental racism, using the Flint, Mich., water crisis as a case in point. The full title of his talk is The Silence of the Faith Community, and Especially the Catholic Community, Over Environmental Racism.

Father Massingale is a professor of theological and social ethics at Fordham University and author of the much-discussed book Racial Justice and the Catholic Church. He is a former president of the Catholic Theological Society of America and a past convener of the Black Catholic Theological Symposium.
