Transformative Expressions: Latina Third Space Feminism

In honor of Le Moyne's celebration of Women's Herstory Month, Prof. Roberta Hurtado will describe the emergence of Latina Third Space Feminism.

Latina Third Space Feminism developed in the late 20th and early 21st centuries to critique Anglo-U.S. colonial power structures. Through Third Space Feminism, women of color creatively respond to continuing colonial domination while also developing transformative cultural practices as potential for decolonial empowerment.

Prof. Roberta Hurtado is an assistant professor of English at SUNY-Oswego. She specializes in Latina/o Literature and Culture, with an emphasis on Puerto Rican women's literature of the 20th and 21st centuries. She works with Chicana and other women of color Third Space Feminist Theories, as well as Decolonial Feminist Theory, and is the author of several scholarly articles.

This event is sponsored by the Gender and Women's Studies Program and the Le Moyne Lectures Committee. For more information, contact Prof. Leigh Fought, GWS Director, at [email protected].
