HEOP Works: 50 Years of Access, Opportunity, & Success!
May 31- June 2, 2019
2019 marks 50 years since Arthur O. Eve and New York State created the Higher Education Opportunity Program (HEOP). The program has been in existence at Le Moyne for nearly as long, and for many of those years, under the leadership of Carl Thomas '65.
In June 2019, Le Moyne College’s HEOP program and the Alumni Association will celebrate HEOP’s 50 years, the incredible students and alumni who are a part of it, Carl Thomas '65, and the other leaders and contributors who have built and maintained the program over the years.
The HEOP Celebration Event, held during Reunion Weekend, will highlight HEOP alumni with special programming where all can reunite, remember, and reminisce.

Carl Thomas '65 Spirit Award
This inaugural Carl Thomas '65 Spirit Award is meant to honor an alumnus or alumna who exhibits in his or her daily life the values that Carl Thomas exemplified in his many years of service to Le Moyne College as Director of HEOP. In that spirit, we seek a person who was a serious student while at Le Moyne and embodied the expectation of academic rigor that Carl expected of his students. We seek a person who values integrity and displays that in his or her daily interactions, a person who has made a commitment to the larger community and gives back as a way of paying forward the mentoring that students of Carl Thomas received. Lastly, we seek a person whose service to the College and understanding of its mission helps spread the word of our Jesuit gem.
We are proud to announce that Giavanni Lucas, Class of 1995, is the recipient of the first Carl Thomas '65 Spirit Award.
This award will be presented annually as part of the Reunion Weekend Awards Presentation. To nominate an alumnus/a, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the candidate's name and why you think this person embodies the spirit of Carl Thomas.
