College of Arts and Sciences Faculty Books Recognized

Three professors from the College of Arts and Sciences at Le Moyne recently learned about recognition for books they have authored.

“Women in the World of Frederick Douglas,” by Leigh Fought, associate professor of history, has been selected by the New York Academy of History to receive the 2018 Herbert H. Lehman Prize for Distinguished Scholarship in New York history. This award, named in honor of Governor Herbert H. Lehman, is part of the New York Academy of History’s mission to promote and honor outstanding historical research and writing. Her book was selected from among more than 40 submissions. Dr. Fought will receive the award at the New York Academy of History Gala Dinner, which takes place in early April in New York City.

CAS Dean and English Professor Kate Costello-Sullivan’s new book “Trauma and Recovery in the 21st-century-Irish Novel,” has been selected to be launched at the National American Conference for Irish Studies conference in Cork this summer.

And History Professor Doug Egerton’s book “The Denmark Vesey Affair: A Documentary History,” has received a 2017 Choice Outstanding Academic Title Award. Books are selected for their excellence in scholarship and presentation, significance of contribution to the field, and value as an important treatment of their subject. Only nine percent of the titles reviewed by Choice during the past year, and two percent of the more than 25,000 titles submitted to Choice over the same period, constitute Outstanding Academic Titles.
