Dr. Meega Wells Named Dean of the Purcell School of Professional Studies

Margaret "Meega" Wells Ph.D, R.N., APN-BC, has been named the permanent dean of the Purcell School of Professional Studies. She has served as Purcell School's interim dean since April 2017.

"My experience as interim dean over the past year has been tremendous, and I look forward to building on the momentum within the Purcell School to continue our growth and innovation," said Dr. Wells. "I am proud to be part of a team of professionals who are committed to the success of our students in everything we do. We are privileged that Le Moyne, as a Jesuit college, exemplifies academic excellence in the arts and sciences, providing the foundation from which Purcell programs are based."

Prior to serving as interim dean, Dr. Wells served as the chair of the Department of Nursing at Le Moyne since joining the College in July 2015. Prior to that, she served in a number of positions at SUNY Upstate Medical University, College of Nursing. Among her roles during her 15 years at SUNY Upstate were assistant dean for outcomes and evaluations, director of graduate studies, and associate professor. Prior to that, she worked for 10 years at St. Joseph's Hospital Health Center. She received her bachelor of science in nursing from Georgetown University, a master of science in nursing from Syracuse University, and a Ph.D. in rural nursing from Binghamton University.

“Meega has a long and impressive career in academia at Le Moyne and other institutions as well," said Joe Marina, S.J., Ph.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. "She has a wealth of knowledge through her different roles as an administrator and professor, and knows how to successfully build programs from the ground up. In all of her positions, she has demonstrated a collaborative approach to working with everyone across the institution in an effective and efficient manner. Meega understands and embraces the mission of Le Moyne with great energy and commitment."

The Purcell School of Professional Studies offers outstanding programs in Nursing, Education, Physician Assistant Studies and Occupational Therapy. The school also serves adult students and veterans through Le Moyne’s Center for Continuing Education. In alignment with the Le Moyne College vision and mission, PSPS prepares students with foundational and advanced knowledge and skills to serve others at the highest capacity in their chosen profession. Graduates are well educated to lead meaningful lives as individuals who are committed to lifelong learning, professional leadership, community engagement, respect for diversity and public service in the Jesuit tradition of excellence.
