Alice Zicari Named Inaugural Director of the Community Hub

Following an internal search, Alice Zicari has been selected to be director of the Community Hub (for Sustainability and the Common Good), a new initiative that will promote social justice through engaged service learning, community-based scholarship, and voluntarism within the Central New York region. Featured as an objective of Sempre Avanti, the College’s strategic plan, external grant funding from the Community Foundation and the Onondaga County Executive have made the launch of the Hub possible.

Working as a part of the Office of Mission Integration, Zicari will lead efforts to support existing community-directed learning and research efforts, and initiate new collaborative projects that would invite faculty from diverse disciplines to partner with College neighbors in solving challenges facing the Syracuse community. With a team of faculty partners, she will work in collaboration with government agencies, elected officials, the region’s many community-based organizations, and higher education institutions such as Syracuse University and Cornell University. She will also assist in fundraising for hub activities and work as a liaison with the College community and students for various programs and partnerships.

“I’m excited to build on the Le Moyne tradition of community outreach and service that was begun more than 50 years ago when Dan Berrigan S.J. began International House, and which has been celebrated by the recent Carnegie Classification. I’m looking forward to work with faculty partners to foster the community’s efforts and explore all that Le Moyne can do to continue making a difference,” said Zicari. “The creation of the Community Hub provides an incredible opportunity to build bridges in a collaborative way between Le Moyne faculty, students, staff and the Central New York community. It helps us realize the vision of Ignacio Ellacuria, that a Jesuit university should function as a projecto social on behalf of society.”

Zicari has served as a member of Le Moyne’s Campus Ministry office since 2017. During her time there, she oversaw the College’s immersion trip program, coordinated and supervised social justice activities, and worked on Campus Ministry Explore, a first-year student pre-orientation program. Prior to Le Moyne, she worked in Campus Ministry at Canisius College and served as a Jesuit volunteer at Cristo Rey Brooklyn High School. She is a 2013 graduate of Canisius College, where she earned a B.A. in political science, and she recently completed her Masters in Arts Administration at Le Moyne.
