JP Rancy ’16, MSIS’17 Named Pre-Doctoral Fellow in the Madden School of Business

Following a national search, Jean-Phillippe (JP) Rancy has been named as the recipient of inaugural Madden School of Business Pre-Doctoral Fellowship in Information Systems. Rancy will begin his work in the position in Fall 2021.

“This opportunity will allow me to advance my research in investigating technological immersion while offering a venue to bridge communities together through thoughtful and reflective leadership," said Rancy. “I’m excited and humbled to be returning to the Heights to work on my research, and also to co-chair the Madden School's task force on diversity, inclusion and racial justice as a pre-doctoral fellow."

Rancy is currently pursuing a doctorate degree at the iSchool at Syracuse University. His research areas lie at the intersection of human-computer interaction and management information systems. He is interested in studying the phenomena surrounding human immersion with technology via visualization mechanisms, such as multi-modal interaction. A native of Queens, N.Y., he received a bachelor of science degree in Business Management and Leadership & Information Systems from Le Moyne in 2016 and a masters in Information Systems from Le Moyne in 2017.

“JP's research exploring the impact of multimodal information systems on individuals in high consequence settings is groundbreaking, and provides new ways of understanding how information received through all of our senses can impact behavior, perception and performance,” said Martha Grabowski, Ph.D., the McDevitt Distinguished Chair in Information Systems, chair of the accounting department and the Information Systems Program director at Le Moyne. “This understanding is particularly important in settings such as medicine, emergency response and transportation, where people may have only a moment to absorb important information, with a lifetime of consequences. JP is an inspirational teacher who provides students with engaging pathways to knowledge and skills and is a leadership model in Le Moyne's commitment to diversity, inclusion and racial justice. We look forward to JP's teaching, research and leadership contributions as we shape the future of the Madden School and the Information Systems Program.”

The fellowship is for two years and is designed for scholars in the final stages of doctoral work who only need to finish their dissertation to complete requirements for the Ph.D.  The fellow will work closely with faculty mentors in teaching and/or scholarship, and demonstrate a commitment to empowering students from communities underrepresented in academia through research, creative activity, service and mentoring. Diversity fellows will teach a 1/1 load of courses in the Information Systems major.
