Of the many lessons Jack Duncanson ’23 has learned throughout his time at Le Moyne, the most important is this: to ask for help.When Jack first began his college experience on another campus, he tried to do everything on his own. He promised himself that he would break that habit after he transferred to Le Moyne, and that he would reach out to faculty for assistance when he needed it. He’s kept that promise, and it has made all of the difference.

It only took Madison Manning ’24 a few weeks to find her niche on the Le Moyne campus.  In that short time, Madison discovered that her professors knew her by name. They were committed to helping her achieve her academic goals and available to answer any question she might have, whether it was about classwork or College life in general. In short, she’d found an environment that was inclusive and in which people could be themselves and learn from one another.

Nearly 2,700 miles and three time zones separate Inglewood, Calif., from Syracuse, N.Y., yet Jonathan Joshua ’08 had no qualms about packing his bags, heading east and becoming a Dolphin. That’s not to say that Jonathan did not experience a period of adjustment when he transferred from a school on the West Coast to Le Moyne. Still, he opened himself up to the possibilities of life on the Heights.

For Sadie Davis ’24, the decision to transfer to Le Moyne was, admittedly, a leap of faith, but one that she is ultimately happy to have taken. Sadie began her college career at a larger institution and, while the experience was valuable and academically engaging, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing. That changed as soon as she arrived at the College and suddenly found herself part of a community that she describes as “welcoming, refreshing and versatile.”

Tamana Tajik's parents fled Afghanistan before she was born, yet she has always considered it to be home. A biology major, Tajik recently raised funds in support of charities benefiting the nation and its people. And in doing so, she truly lived Saint Ignatius’ credo: “Love is shown more in deed than words.”

Coming from a large school, I laughed out loud in my first class at Le Moyne when the professor called roll! At my previous institution I am not sure any of my faculty members knew my name in the three semesters I attended and many classes enrolled hundreds of students.

For Raegan Parrotta, deciding to transfer to Le Moyne was about coming home. She made the move to the Heights in Fall 2019 after starting her college career at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
