Balancing the Technical with Business Acumen

Randy Bittel graduated in 2009, majoring in Business Analytics and Finance and went on to earn his MBA in 2016.  He is currently the Financial Support Manager for the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY.  "Although I report to the Vice President of Finance, my role is to support the Vice President of Enterprise Marketing and Sales. I work with her and her directors and provide them with analytics, reports, forecasts, and other financial analysis to help optimize their businesses. The areas I support include all non-gaming areas, primarily focused on Entertainment, Sales, and the hotels."

He appreciates the hands on experience he received at Le Moyne using analytical tools such as Tableau and Excel: "These skills have been the foundation of my career and I couldn't do my job today without the knowledge and experience I gained while at Le Moyne."

When asked to share his advice with current students, he stresses the importance of never ceasing to learn and grow. "To be successful in business analytics you need to have a balance of technical and analytical skills as well as good business acumen. Having technical abilities that others do not will make you a more valuable asset to your company. Knowing how to solve business problems through the use of analytics will set you apart from your peers."
