Erika Benson (Spanish & Peace and Global Studies, 2009)
After Le Moyne, I got a master's degree in health care management (MHA) at Cornell University and I did a postgraduate fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I am now the Director of American Anesthesiology of Maryland (a group of doctors and nurses).
My degree in Spanish absolutely helped me in my career! For example, I went to Chile for the requirement to study abroad. While there, I made a thesis on the government's health system. Later, I referred to that work in my graduate application. Also, when I was working at Hopkins, they gave me an important project that tried to improve the access of the Hispanic community to medical attention. They knew that I could understand and contribute much more than others because my written and verbal proficiency in Spanish.
