Looking at Problems from All Angles

Allison Robinson ‘20, who majored in Applied Mathematics and minored in Computer Science and Economics, started working at IBM as a federal data scientist.  She shared how her experience has prepared her for life after The Heights:  "Le Moyne has helped me get ready for a career through the courses I took. One thing that developed as I was at Le Moyne was my problem-solving skills. Through my classes, I learned to look at a problem from all angles. If my initial idea didn’t work, I had to come up with a new solution. This was particularly relevant in my computer science and statistical classes. I think this helped me to be more resilient and hard working. Also, through my classes, I learned the importance of working with others. My classmates and I were able to bounce ideas off each other which ended up helping all of us succeed."

"Le Moyne has also prepared me for what comes after college. Through my experiences I was able to grow as a person. I had the opportunity to do things that were out of my comfort zone; whether that was joining a club or studying abroad. All of my experiences outside the classroom helped me to become more independent and more self-confident. I was able to discover what types of things were important to me. I’ve learned lessons that I will carry with me throughout my life."

"My advice for fellow Phins is to not box yourself into one thing. Join different clubs that you find interesting just for fun. You might find something that you are very passionate about. Also don’t let opportunities pass you by. I would not be the person I am today if I didn’t take advantage of the opportunities I was given."
