    Le Moyne Student Starts Fast

Acheampong Johnson ’15 does not believe in wasting a single second.

A dual major in management and leadership and information systems with a minor in computer science, Johnson knows that in the start-up world, especially the tech start-up world, things can change in an instant. Time is a precious commodity, and he made the most of it. Johnson spent the summer working as an intern at StartFast, a business accelerator that annually chooses five to 10 software, mobile and Internet companies for an intense three-month program that provides them with access to a wide range of resources, including financial capital, mentors, and office space and basic web infrastructure services.

Johnson learned about the opportunity to work at StartFast during a Madden School of Business Lecture attended by StartFast’s managing directors, Chuck Stormon and Nasir Ali. He went on to work with six companies connected to StartFast in downtown Syracuse. He primarily assists the organizations in developing their websites and designing applications for them.

For Johnson, there was ample opportunity to learn, explore, collaborate with others, and use his imagination. He calls is “a tremendous environment for learning” and he has made the most of it. He created an app for Zursh, a research engine connecting enterprise requests with researchers. He also attended Start Fast’s Demo Day, during which ideas are shared with angel investors and venture capitalists.

In addition to his work at StarFast, Johnson also worked as an intern for the College’s Office of Information Technology, where he developed on an app to better connect Le Moyne students to the campus. It is a work in progress, but he hopes to have it completed sometime within the next school year.

As for the future, Johnson plans to head west to Denver or Boulder, Colo., after graduation, and to work in the technology field, perhaps as a software developer.

“I love the energy,” he says. “I love the environment.”
