SUMMARY:Religious Mandates for Peacemaking in Gaza and Beyond
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us in a wide-ranging conversation about the role played by various religious traditions in both justifying conflicts and advocating for peace. \n\nWe will examine what the Catholic Church teaches about peacemaking and religious freedom. We will also look at how other religious traditions inform the attitudes of their faithful towards global conflicts–with a special emphasis on the ongoing carnage in Gaza.\n\nDr. Zogby is the founder of the Arab American Institute. He was appointed by President Obama to the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (2013-2017). He earned his doctorate in Religion from Temple University. Dr. Bazzano is a specialist in the study of Islam. He has held fellowships from the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to study in Yemen\, Egypt\, and Syria. Dr. Glancy is a biblical scholar. She served as the 2004 Catholic Biblical Association Visiting Professor at L’Ecole Biblique (Jerusalem). \n\nOrganized by the Religious Studies Department\, with support from the Berrigan Lecture Endowment.
