State-Sponsored Islamophobia and Muslim Performance Arts in Britain

Jeanette Jouli, Ph.D, Associate Professor of Religion, Syracuse University
This talk is based on Dr. Jouli’s book manuscript, The Art of the Call: Muslim Culture in the Age of Counterterrorism, which investigates how a multi-racial Muslim creative scene in England’s urban centers, spearheaded by Afro-descendent art practitioners, navigates and tries to speak back to an increasingly Islamophobic climate. This event is co-sponsored with the Social Science Seminar.
