SUMMARY:The Irish on American Screens and Streams
DESCRIPTION:\n\nStories and images of and by the Irish abound in 21st century screen media\, especially within the United States. The self-conscious uses of genre by these productions\, not to mention their marketing strategies\, offer new insights into Ireland’s long standing representational traditions\, particularly those developed in cinema. \n\nMatthew J. Fee\, Ph.D.\, director of the Integral Honors Program\, will explore how Ireland’s significant investment in content for streaming services provocatively reframes – yet also often replays – ongoing debates regarding the depiction of Irishness in film and television. \n\nThe lecture is the fifth annual Eileen Patricia McMahon Zogby '67 Irish lecture\, which focuses on topics related to Irish literature and history and the Irish immigrant experience in America. The series is endowed by James Zogby '67 in memory of his late wife\, Eileen.\n\nNote\, while this lecture is in person\, it will also be streamed on the College YouTube channel.
