    Le Moyne Welcomes Second Largest First-Year Class in College History

    Nearly 650 strong, the Le Moyne class of 2020 arrived on campus on Friday, Aug. 26, greeted by dozens of orientation leaders who welcomed them to the Heights and quickly moved their belongings into residence halls.

    The arrival began a three-day orientation experience for the incoming class, the second largest in Le Moyne's history. The class of 2020 is the latest in a string of success; over the past eight years, the College has recorded its seven largest classes ever. Members of the class come from 14 states and seven foreign nations, with biology being the most popular declared major.

    Highlights of the weekend include:
    • President’s picnic lunch on Friday in the Campus Center and main quad;
    • Class of 2020 legacy photos – new Dolphins pose for shots with their alumni parents;
    • Inside the L orientation for parents of new student-athletes;
    • Family blessing and new student convocation at the Thomas J. Niland Jr. Athletic Complex;
    • Movie on the Quad – The Jungle Book;
    • DIVE (Dolphins in Volunteer Efforts) – All members of the class will travel to sites throughout the Syracuse area to help with service work;
    • Relationships 101 – live production performed by Le Moyne students depicting college social scenes involving alcohol use/abuse, consent and bystander intervention;
    • “Your Distinctive Education” session, to learn about the Jesuit tradition of educational excellence;
    • Discussion of the Common Reading “A Room of One’s Own” by Virginia Woolf;
    • “Mass on the Grass” on the lawn outside the Panasci Family Chapel.

    The weekend will conclude with a welcome rally sponsored by the Student Government Association, followed by the annual tradition of fireworks over the Heights.

    On Sunday, upperclassmen will return and the first day of classes is Monday, Aug. 29.
