I truly believe that Le Moyne is home.

I grew up in the Syracuse neighborhood of Eastwood, less than two miles from Le Moyne College’s campus. I attended Salem Hyde Elementary School, Lincoln Middle School, and graduated from Henninger High School.

In middle and high school, I began volunteering as a First Aider for local Little League and Pop Warner football teams. My late father introduced me to the baseball coach at Onondaga Community College, who took me on as a student athletic trainer. It was there that I developed my love of musculoskeletal medicine and realized I wanted a deeper understanding of disease and treatment.

I worked with the American Red Cross teaching CPR and First Aid and developed the first local Coaches First Aid course. Along the way, I discovered something else — I loved to teach.

When I came to Le Moyne, I fell in love with the small class sizes and the close relationships between students and faculty. I became actively involved in campus organizations and partnered with the American Red Cross to host a mock dorm disaster drill and a community-wide mass CPR training in the athletic center. Service, education, and community — it all felt aligned.

After graduating from Le Moyne, I was accepted into medical school at SUNY Upstate Medical University. During medical school, I volunteered as an ambulance attendant with Syracuse University Ambulance, once again spending Friday nights caring for injured and ill students. I realized I was truly a hands-on learner who thrived on direct patient care. Because I enjoyed every aspect of medicine, Family Practice offered the opportunity to care for patients across all stages of life.

I was accepted into the Family Practice Residency Program at St Joseph’s Hospital Health Center and graduated in 1993. One of my fellow residents and I wanted to remain in Syracuse but struggled to find a practice that felt like the right fit. With the support of Community General Hospital, we opened a new practice alongside a retiring family physician on the west side of Syracuse.

After three years, we joined with twelve other family physicians to form FamilyCare Medical Group, which has grown into the largest privately-owned primary care medical group in Upstate New York. I have now practiced Family Medicine on Syracuse’s west side for more than 32 years.

Throughout my career, I have remained deeply involved in sports medicine and education. I have served as Medical Director and Sports Medicine Physician for Westhill High School, Safety Coordinator for Geddes Little League and Geddes Pop Warner Football, and currently as Medical Director for the Syracuse Salt Cats.

At SUNY Upstate, I have been a Preceptor and Master Clinical Physician teaching musculoskeletal medicine. Since its inception, I have also taught in the Physician Assistant Program at Le Moyne as a preceptor, guest lecturer, and part-time faculty member, teaching Problem-Based Learning, Physical Diagnosis, Chronic Care Management, Geriatrics, and OSCE preparation.

On the personal side, I have been happily married to my wife, Karen, and we have two children — one an agriculture teacher, and the other a Le Moyne Physician Assistant Program graduate who now works alongside me in my office. I have played the trumpet since elementary school and perform with my church choir. I also enjoy traveling, scuba diving, and reading.

From growing up just down the road, to teaching the next generation of healthcare providers, my journey has come full circle. Le Moyne has never just been a college to me — it has always been home.
