J. Mark Lawson, Ph.D., is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. He is a biblical
scholar with particular interest in the New Testament and how it reflects the theological
and social development of early Christian communities. In 2008, he was honored as
Le Moyne’s Outstanding Part-time Faculty Member of the Year; in 2018, he received the
college’s Bene Merenti award. He is also the author of Cracking the Book: How to Start
Reading the Bible (2011).
