Honors Thesis Defense: Sydney Laniak: “Automation and its Impact on the Demand for Labor: Formidable Foe or Faithful Friend.” This thesis examines the impact automation has had on the demand for labor in American industries post-twentieth century. The thesis begins with the historical context surrounding automation, moving into a statistical analysis featuring a regression run on the 2018-2021 Annual Surveys of Manufacturers (ASM) for industrial robotic equipment. This regression finds that none of the explanatory variables are statistically significant.
