The Syracuse Astronomical Society invites the Le Moyne community to its upcoming general membership meeting. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Shane Larson of Clarkson University for a live, in-person presentation titled
“Star Light, Star Bright: Discovering the Secret Lives of the Stars.”
The stars we see each night appear calm, constant, and unchanging—mirroring the sky our ancestors saw centuries ago. But behind this serene façade lie dramatic, dynamic lifetimes. Stars are born from swirling molecular clouds, grow and evolve through cycles of expansion and contraction, and ultimately meet spectacular ends, leaving behind exotic remnants in the cosmic “stellar graveyard.”
In this talk, Dr. Larson will guide us through the lives of stars at every stage of their evolution. With only about 8000 stars visible across the entire sky (and far fewer under city lights!), we’ll explore some of these remarkable objects and the surprising stories they reveal.
All are welcome—join us for an evening of stellar discovery.
