Part of Adaptation Today’s mentorship series, organized by Julie Grossman at Le Moyne College and Seda Oz at the University of Delaware, “Musical Adaptation in Practice: Film, Theater and the Creative Process” supports emerging and established scholars alike through collaborative, cross-disciplinary dialogue. In this session taking place on Friday, Dec. 12 at noon, we’ll hear from artists who adapt stories across media, whether through composing new scores for silent films, or staging theatrical adaptations with music and puppetry.

Panelists are:
• Nicolas Scherzinger, composer and professor of music at Syracuse University – Adaptation as Interpretation: Scoring Absurdist Silent Comedy
• Erin O’Hara, film composer, songwriter, music producer and sound artists – Adapting Perspectives: Giving Voice to Women in Silent Film
• Matt Chiorini, artistic director and playwright at Le Moyne and Travis Newton conductor, musician and interim dean of the Carroll College of Arts and Sciences at Le Moyne – Adapting Franz Kafka for the Stage. With Puppets!

Each speaker will give a short talk about their adaptation journey, accompanied by clips from their work, including selections from Sherlock Jr., Blackmail, and Kafka: The Musical. A live Q&A will follow.
