More Than a Professor: How Faculty Mentorship Changes Lives
At Le Moyne, faculty mentorship is about more than office hours and academic advising. It’s about helping you navigate uncertainty, build confidence, explore new opportunities, and pursue meaningful goals. Whether you are choosing a major, preparing for a career, conducting research, or simply trying to find your place, our faculty are invested in your success.

Helping Students Find Their Path
“During my first semester at Le Moyne, I was a history major planning to become a teacher. But as I began taking education courses, I found myself questioning whether that path was right for me. After taking classes with Dr. Holly Rine, I finally worked up the courage to ask what other careers I could pursue with a history degree. Like many students, I assumed my options were limited. Instead, she showed me there were far more possibilities than I realized. Over the next year, Dr. Rine helped me explore my interests, introduced me to Public History, and connected me with alumni working in the field. Most importantly, she made me feel okay not having everything figured out.
I arrived at Le Moyne feeling uncertain about my future. Dr. Rine changed that. She helped me rediscover my love of learning, gave me the confidence to explore new opportunities, and reminded me that changing direction isn’t failure, it’s part of growth.”
Opening Doors to What's Next
“Professor Jim Enwright has been more than an educator to me, he’s an advocate, mentor, and trusted ally. He teaches from real-world experience, genuinely cares about his students, and has opened countless doors for me and my classmates.
Professor Enwright helped me land an internship at EY, connected me with alumni in the field, and has always been someone I can turn to for career advice. His extensive professional network and willingness to share opportunities have helped me better understand both the technical and business sides of cybersecurity.
Most importantly, he sees what I bring to the table and encourages me to aim even higher. His open-door policy has given me the space for honest conversations that have helped shape my future. Professor Enwright brings real-world experience into the classroom and stays connected with students long after they graduate. Seeing alumni return to share their experiences is incredibly motivating and reminds us of what’s possible.”
Helping Students Believe in Themselves
“When I transferred to Le Moyne, I often felt unsure of myself. As a commuter and transfer student, there were many things I didn’t know how to navigate. Dr. Matthew Hanson was always willing to help, whether that meant walking me to the Registrar’s Office, helping me solve a problem, or simply taking the time to listen.
One of the most important conversations we had was about my major. I felt pressure to pursue a path that wasn’t truly right for me. Dr. Hanson reminded me that I was the one coming to class every day and that success would be much harder if I wasn’t genuinely interested in what I was studying. It was exactly what I needed to hear. Dr. Hanson has always encouraged me to believe in myself, even when I struggled. Whether helping me develop better study habits, offering reassurance during difficult courses, or simply taking time to talk when I felt overwhelmed, he consistently reminded me that growth is a process and that challenges don’t define my future.
Most importantly, he helped me realize that I was capable of more than I thought. His support, encouragement, and genuine care have had a lasting impact on my confidence and my future.”
Inspiring Students to Dream Bigger
“When I was still exploring majors and trying to determine my future career path, Dr. J.P. Rancy went above and beyond to ensure I could experience different areas of study. One conversation with him changed everything. As we discussed the opportunities available through Information Systems, I realized the career paths he described were exactly what I had been looking for, I just didn’t know how to identify them yet. That conversation ultimately led me to add Information Systems as a major and opened doors to opportunities I had never considered.
Since then, Dr. Rancy has connected me with industry professionals, supported my internship and research experiences, helped guide my honors thesis, and introduced me to graduate school opportunities across the country. He consistently goes the extra mile to help students pursue their goals and discover what’s possible.
Most importantly, he helped me see a future for myself that was bigger than I originally imagined.”
