Biography

Alex Savich spent most of his life in Syracuse after immigrating to the United States with his parents. He became fascinated with anatomy at a young age when he first dissected a frog in biology class in sixth grade. Anatomy and physiology along with embryology classes during undergrad continued to shape his interest in a medical career. Initially he was interested in attending medical school with intentions of becoming a plastic surgeon. But one day everything drastically changed when he spoke to a group of PA students studying at the library. They answered a simple question, “Do physician assistants do surgery?” He graduated with a Master of Physician Assistant Class of 2008 and is one of the first of 5 students to be granted the opportunity to participate in the 3+2 accelerated pathway.

During the course of his first year in clinical practice he first assisted in many plastic cases, fine tuning his suturing skills and fulfilling his desire to work in plastics. As a general surgery PA at Crouse Hospital, he continues to first assist in the operating room, take call, care for patients on the surgical service and intensive care unit.

After precepting PA students from Le Moyne College on their surgery rotation for 10 years, his passion for teaching sparked his pursuit of a faculty position with the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at Le Moyne. He is the assistant clinical coordinator, teaches the physical diagnosis lab, and enjoys doing research.
