Black History Month Lecture Featuring Richard Bell, Ph.D.
Richard Bell, Ph.D., will share the gripping, true story of five boys who were kidnapped in the North and smuggled into slavery in the Deep South—and of their daring attempt to escape and bring their captors to justice.
Dr. Bell is a scholar, writer, and associate professor of history at the University of Maryland. His research focuses on the history and culture of the United States between 1750 and 1877. His new book, Stolen: Five Free Boys Kidnapped into Slavery and Their Astonishing Odyssey Home, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2019.
The event is sponsored by the Office of Inclusive Excellence and Global Education and the Department of History. It is part of a series of events centered on diversity being held at Le Moyne.
