Dr. Christopher Bass is a nuclear physicist and astronomer whose teaching and research span both fundamental physics and the study of the universe. As Director of Le Moyne’s Astronomy Program and Chair of the Department of Physics, he teaches a wide range of courses, including astrophysics, observational astronomy, analytical mechanics, and advanced laboratory methods. He is committed to providing students with meaningful, hands-on experiences in both the classroom and the lab.

His research focuses on neutrino physics, fast neutron detection, and the analysis of primitive solar system materials to better understand the distribution of volatiles in the early solar nebula. He is a member of the PROSPECT collaboration and participates in research at national laboratories. Dr. Bass is active in professional societies such as the American Physical Society and the American Astronomical Society and regularly mentors undergraduates in research and independent study projects
